from first to faster
Individualised IRONMAN & 70.3 coaching for athletes ready to step up in distance and race faster with confidence, structure, and strength-integrated training.
Coaching starts with a conversation.
Welcome to Be The Fear
At Be The Fear, I help age-group triathletes training for IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 move from first long-course efforts to faster race performance. Whether you’re stepping up in distance or chasing a stronger 70.3 or IRONMAN result, you’ll work directly with me on individualised, strength-integrated triathlon coaching built around your life, your goals, and your race day ambitions.
You’ll work directly with me as your coach, with training built around your goals, abilities, and real life. Every plan includes strength training to support performance, reduce injury risk, and promote longevity in the sport.
I’ve been where you are: learning freestyle swimming as an adult, chasing podiums, hitting burnout, and finding my way back to the sport I love. That journey shapes how I coach: with empathy, realism, and a focus on helping you reach big goals without losing the joy along the way.

performance principles
These principles guide how I build your training so you can train with confidence and purpose.
Individualisation
Every athlete is different. Your coaching should reflect your unique goals, experience, lifestyle, and schedule—so your plan works for you, not the other way around.
Strength for Endurance
Strength training isn’t optional. It builds durability, improves performance, and supports long-term success in sport and life.
Communication & Service
Coaching is a two-way street. You’ll get clear support and honest feedback — and your updates help me adjust your training so we stay aligned.
Perseverance
Improvement takes effort. You don’t need to be perfect, but you do need to keep showing up. Bold goals take commitment, consistency, and courage.
Balance
Training should support your life—not take over it. The best plan is one you can stick with. Balance leads to sustainability, enjoyment, and long-term growth.
Ironman Triathlon Coach Bec
I’m Bec Fear — a certified Ironman triathlon coach, strength specialist, and competitive age-group athlete who knows what it takes to go from learning freestyle as an adult to standing on the IRONMAN 70.3 podium. I’ve raced everything from sprint triathlons to full-distance IRONMANs, and my own journey has taken me from burnout to comeback — giving me a unique perspective on performance, resilience, and balance.
With a background in strength coaching and over a decade of experience helping others build fitness in both military and civilian environments - I create training that goes beyond just logging sessions. Every athlete I work with gets individualised support, integrated strength for longevity, and direct communication. Whether you're chasing your first IRONMAN finish line or qualifying for world championships, I’m here to help you train with confidence.
getting started is easy
Get in touch to share a bit about your goals and experience. I’ll review your details and get back to you with the next best step — whether that’s answering a few questions by email or booking a call.
